Dow Jones is seeking a Growth Strategy Editor for Free Expression, based in New York. You will own audience growth across Substack and Dow Jones newsletters, coordinating editorial, product, marketing, and analytics to expand reach and engagement while preserving editorial credibility.

You'll work with editors and contributors to develop franchises, sharpen themes, and build recurring publishing rhythms. A strong writer with data-driven mindset will thrive here.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in audience development, newsletter growth, digital publishing, creator media, platform strategy, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience growing an audience on Substack or a comparable platform, with deep familiarity with its mechanics.
• Strong editorial judgment and ability to distinguish durable reader relationships from mere popularity.
• Strong analytical skills and comfort with audience data, dashboards, experimentation, and performance metrics.

Responsibilities

• Own the Free Expression growth strategy — acquisition, engagement, conversion, and retention, aiming for ~2,500 net-new Substack readers per week.
• Make Free Expression native to Substack: manage homepage, Notes, comments, recommendations, cross-promotion, and community.
• Test new distribution channels and partnerships, turning successful tactics into repeatable playbooks.
• Partner with Opinion editors and writers to sharpen anchor themes and publish rhythms.
• Identify high-potential contributors and build audience brands across bylines, audio, video, and events.
• Track performance across Substack, site, and social; analyze growth, source, engagement, and churn.
