Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Data Engineering Manager for the Growth & Revenue data team at our San Francisco headquarters. You will own the data strategy and execution for growth, checkout, billing, and revenue, partnering with Data Science, Product, and Finance to connect product usage to trustworthy revenue metrics.

This role emphasizes building durable data products, high data quality, and scalable analytics while coaching a diverse team in a fast-paced product environment.

Qualifications

• Have deep experience leading and scaling data engineering teams in a fast-moving product or technology environment.
• Strong technical judgment across modern data systems, including SQL, Python or Scala, Spark, orchestration, dimensional and event modeling, and lakehouse or warehouse architectures.
• Have built trusted growth, lifecycle, attribution, subscription, billing, payments, revenue, or monetization data products at meaningful scale.
• Can turn ambiguous business questions into durable data contracts, metric definitions, and technical roadmaps.

Responsibilities

• Build, manage, and grow a high-performing data team across Growth & Revenue domains.
• Define the data strategy for Growth & Revenue areas you own.
• Deliver durable, well-modeled data products linking product behavior, subscription state, checkout events, payments, and revenue.
• Establish trusted metric definitions and data quality standards for executives and teams.
• Partner with Data Science and Product teams to support experimentation and scalable analytics.
• Collaborate with Finance to ensure revenue views reconcile with production billing systems.
• Raise operational excellence for pipelines including reliability, observability, privacy, governance, and incident response.
• Set a clear roadmap, tradeoffs, and communicate progress to stakeholders.
