Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a senior Machine Learning Data Scientist to lead forecasting initiatives within Strategic Finance Data Science. You will build and scale robust forecasting systems powering metrics like DAU/WAU, revenue, and profitability.

This cross-functional role partners with product, research, engineers, and finance leaders to operationalize insights and shape company strategy. Location is San Francisco with a hybrid model and relocation assistance.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in a quantitative field (MS or PhD).
• 7+ years of applied data science with forecasting experience.
• Expertise in time-series forecasting and model trade-offs.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and ML frameworks (scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow).

Responsibilities

• Build statistical and machine learning models to forecast product, finance, and GTM metrics.
• Own end-to-end modeling lifecycle including feature engineering, prototyping, deployment, and explainability.
• Develop scalable, interpretable forecasts for user growth, monetization, compute load, and profitability.
• Contribute to self-service forecasting tools and internal platforms.
• Research and evaluate emerging forecasting tools and techniques.
• Translate technical outputs into business insights and strategic recommendations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate forecasts into planning and decision-making.
