Job summary

Fehr & Peers in Petaluma, CA is seeking a Transportation Engineer or Planner with 2-4 years of experience. You will build on a strong technical foundation, take on greater ownership, mentor others, and contribute to planning and engineering projects.

You'll work on transportation impact studies, Complete Streets, bicycle and pedestrian planning, and forecasting while gaining client-facing project leadership and collaboration within a proactive, mentorship‑driven team.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of relevant experience in transportation planning or engineering.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in transportation, civil or related field.
• Experience applying transportation analysis techniques with increasing independence.
• Experience in transportation planning, traffic engineering, design (conceptual through PS&E), complete streets, traffic operations analysis, or travel demand modeling.
• Programming knowledge in Python and/or R.

Responsibilities

• Lead tasks and manage projects, including coordinating scope, schedule, and budget.
• Apply standard and intermediate analytical techniques independently, with appropriate guidance.
• Contribute to project approaches, problem-solving, and decision-making.
• Prepare clear, well-organized technical reports, memos, and presentations.
• Participate in and lead client meetings and support relationship development.
• Mentor entry-level staff and interns, including delegating, reviewing work and providing guidance.
