Job summary

Upstart is seeking a Compliance & Controls Manager to serve as a trusted first-line compliance partner within Growth. This 1LOD role embeds with the business to enable growth while managing regulatory risk, shaping customer experiences and product initiatives before launch.

You will help build and scale the Growth Compliance function by developing review frameworks, processes, and scalable workflows for marketing, advertising, customer experience, and partnerships as Upstart grows.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience reviewing marketing or customer-facing content for compliance.
• Experience applying UDAAP and Regulation B, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, or Fair Lending.
• Experience managing high-volume compliance reviews and meeting deadlines.
• Ability to partner cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Legal, or Compliance stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Review marketing campaigns, customer communications, partner materials, and product launches for compliance.
• Partner with Marketing, Product, Legal and second-line Compliance to provide risk-based guidance.
• Apply regulatory frameworks to evaluate marketing claims and customer journeys.
• Help build first-line compliance operating model with review frameworks and processes.
• Develop scalable review processes, checklists, and guidance.
• Identify recurring compliance themes and propose improvements.
• Leverage internal tooling and Generative AI to improve review efficiency while applying human judgment.
