Job summary

Hires Group is seeking a Group Leader to drive water and wastewater infrastructure projects in the San Diego region. You will build and lead a growing practice, nurture client relationships, and participate in a performance-based incentive program with potential ownership.

The role emphasizes leadership of a team, technical excellence, and close collaboration with clients and local agencies to deliver high-quality systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is required.
• 15+ years of water/wastewater experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the water/wastewater engineering team and grow the San Diego practice.
• Manage treatment, pumping, and conveyance projects, including large-diameter systems.
• Oversee planning, budgeting, and execution to meet timelines and profitability.
• Review designs and reports for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Mentor staff and foster a collaborative, growth-oriented culture.
• Collaborate with clients, internal teams, and local agencies on project delivery.

The job:

• Lead the water/wastewater engineering team, helping grow the practice across San Diego and beyond.
• Manage treatment, pumping, and conveyance projects, including large-diameter water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
• Oversee planning, budgeting, and execution to ensure projects meet technical standards, timelines, and profitability goals.
• Review engineering designs and reports for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Support and mentor staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented culture.
• Work closely with clients, internal teams, and local agencies to deliver high-quality infrastructure solutions.

What you need

• Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering.
• Licensed PE.
• 15+ years of experience in water/wastewater.
