Job summary

South Shore YMCA in Scituate is seeking a Before and After School Group Leader to implement classroom curriculum, assist with homework, and maintain a safe, nurturing environment. The role includes morning and after-school activities, outdoor play, and arts and crafts across the Scituate program locations.

You will supervise staff and volunteers, engage families, ensure EEC/ADA compliance, and support YMCA fundraising efforts as part of YMCA operations.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ with HS diploma or GED and 6+ months experience with school-age children.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree a plus with 3+ months experience with school-age children.
• Reliable transportation; able to work across multiple locations as needed.
• Must pass EEC background check: fingerprinting.
• Knowledge of EEC regulations.
• Strong relationship-building with staff, children, families, and volunteers.
• EEC PD requirements; PQ Registry current; CPR/First Aid, Child Protection, and Employee Safety training on hire.

Job description

South Shore YMCA has an opening for a Before and After School Group Leader. This position implements classroom curriculum, provides homework assistance, communicates information to families, and maintains a safe, healthy, engaging, and nurturing environment. This opening serves the Scituate program locations. Days are full of hands‑on engagement, from morning activities to after‑school homework help, gross motor play, and arts and crafts.

Your Role Will Include:

• Program Management: Plan and execute programs meeting EEC/HEPA standards and children's needs; accommodate children with disabilities per EEC and ADA.
• Staff Engagement: Directly supervise program participants and volunteers; plan and direct staff work per EEC/QRIS standards.
• Membership Engagement: Build family relationships, resolve inquiries, and help recruit new families.
• Facility Management: Keep program facilities and equipment safe, clean, and well maintained.
• Volunteer Development: Engage volunteers.
• Community Involvement: Support YMCA fundraising activities and events.

Physical Demands:

• This role requires the ability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, reach, lift up to 25 lbs, and actively engage in activities such as climbing, running, and outdoor play.

Salary and Benefits:

• $18.00–$20.00 per hour.
• Sick time accrual: 1 hour per 30 hours worked.

Locations & Shift Times:

• Part‑time, AM, PM or Split shift. Grades K–5 and at SSCPS, Grades K–8.
• Before School 6:45 – 9:00 AM; After School 2:45 – 6:00 PM, Monday–Friday.
• Scituate: Wampatuck Elementary, Jenkins Elementary.
