Job summary

South Shore YMCA seeks a Before and After School Group Leader to implement classroom curriculum, provide homework help, and maintain a safe, engaging environment for Scituate students. The role supports mornings and after-school activities across Wampatuck and Jenkins Elementary.

The position requires 18+ with a high school diploma or GED and childcare experience; EEC compliance and background checks are required, with CPR/First Aid training provided on hire.

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ with a high school diploma or GED plus 6+ months of experience with school-age children.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree a plus, with 3+ months of experience working with school-age children.
• Reliable transportation required; able to work across more than one location.
• Must pass EEC background check including fingerprinting.
• Knowledge of EEC regulations.
• Strong relationship-building with staff, children, families, and volunteers.
• EEC PD requirements; PQ Registry current; CPR/First Aid and Employee Safety training on hire.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver programs meeting EEC/HEPA standards and children's needs; accommodate children with disabilities.
• Direct staff and volunteers; plan staff work per EEC/QRIS standards.
• Build family relationships, address inquiries, and help recruit new families.

Job description

South Shore YMCA has an opening for a Before and After School Group Leader. This position implements classroom curriculum, provides homework assistance, communicates information to families, and maintains a safe, healthy, engaging, and nurturing environment. This opening serves the Scituate program locations. Days are full of hands‑on engagement, from morning activities to after‑school homework help, gross motor play, and arts and crafts.

Your Role Will Include:

• Program Management: Plan and execute programs meeting EEC/HEPA standards and children's needs; accommodate children with disabilities per EEC and ADA.
• Staff Engagement: Directly supervise program participants and volunteers; plan and direct staff work per EEC/QRIS standards.
• Membership Engagement: Build family relationships, resolve inquiries, and help recruit new families.
• Facility Management: Keep program facilities and equipment safe, clean, and well maintained.
• Volunteer Development: Engage volunteers.
• Community Involvement: Support YMCA fundraising activities and events.

Physical Demands:

• This role requires the ability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, reach, lift up to 25 lbs, and actively engage in activities such as climbing, running, and outdoor play.

Salary and Benefits:

• $18.00–$20.00 per hour.
• Sick time accrual: 1 hour per 30 hours worked.

Locations & Shift Times:

• Part‑time, AM, PM or Split shift. Grades K–5 and at SSCPS, Grades K–8.
• Before School 6:45 – 9:00 AM; After School 2:45 – 6:00 PM, Monday–Friday.
• Scituate: Wampatuck Elementary, Jenkins Elementary.
