Job summary

New York Institute of Technology seeks a Groundsperson on its Long Island campus to maintain campus grounds through lawn care, seasonal outdoor maintenance, and general outdoor upkeep.

Responsibilities include mowing, trimming, debris removal, snow and ice management, equipment operation, and reporting unsafe conditions. Must be physically capable and able to work outdoors in all weather; NYS driver's license required; HS diploma preferred.

Qualifications

• Previous landscaping, outdoor maintenance, and snow plowing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

New York Tech’s Long Island campus seeks a Groundsperson to work Monday – Friday, 10:00AM – 6:30 PM.

The Groundsperson title is in the Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 282. The Groundsperson performs routine manual labor to maintain campus grounds, including landscape cleaning and seasonal outdoor maintenance. The role requires regular physical activity and the use of hand and power tools.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform lawn care, including mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing debris

• Operate equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and small machinery

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. regularly
• Use of hands for gripping, handling, and operating tools and equipment
• Repetitive motions including bending and twisting
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)

Work Environment

• Outdoor work in all seasons and weather conditions
• Exposure to noise, dust, pollen, and equipment fumes
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
