Job summary

New York Institute of Technology’s Long Island campus seeks a Groundsperson to work Monday – Friday, 10:00AM – 6:30 PM, performing lawn care, debris removal, snow and ice removal, and operating grounds equipment. Responsibilities include loading and transporting materials, reporting unsafe conditions, and maintaining outdoor spaces across the campus.

The role requires HS diploma, NYS driver’s license, computer literacy, and ability to work unsupervised.

Qualifications

• Previous landscaping, outdoor maintenance, and snow plowing experience preferred.
• HS Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be computer literate.
• Must have a valid NYS driver’s license.
• Ability to work unsupervised on assigned tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform lawn care, including mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing debris.
• Remove trash, leaves, and debris from grounds, walkways, and parking areas.
• Perform snow and ice removal, including shoveling, salting, and operating snow equipment.
• Operate equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and small machinery.
• Load, unload, and transport materials such as soil, mulch, tools, and equipment.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions or maintenance issues.

Essential Job Functions

• Perform lawn care, including mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing debris

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching

• Use of hands for gripping, handling, and operating tools and equipment
• Repetitive motions including bending and twisting
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)

Work Environment

• Outdoor work in all seasons and weather conditions
• Exposure to noise, dust, pollen, and equipment fumes
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
