Job summary

The University of Michigan Dearborn is seeking a temporary groundskeeper to perform campus upkeep, grounds maintenance, and snow removal. You will contribute to campus beautification and safety in assigned areas and operate a range of equipment, including mowers, tractors, plows, and salting gear.

Responsibilities include responding to winter weather events, maintaining equipment, and working as part of a team.

Qualifications

Job description

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Temporary position responsible for general campus upkeep with grounds maintenance and snow removal duties. Accepts responsibility for and contributes
to overall campus beautification and safety in assigned areas. Skilled in the safe and effective operation of general grounds maintenance equipment including
mowers, power tools, utility carts, and pickup and small dump trucks with plow attachments and salters. Reliably responds to campus weather cleanup efforts
during and outside of regularly scheduled work schedule.

RELATED DUTIES

Operate power equipment and machinery including tractors, loaders, riding mowers, utility carts with or without brooms and plows, dump trucks, pickup trucks, and other
motorized vehicles and equipment.

Remove ice and snow from roadways, sidewalks, drives, parking lots, and building entrances utilizing snow plow trucks, power brooms, blowers and blades, truck mounted
salting equipment, utility carts, and a variety of hand operated tools.

Clean, maintain and lubricate assigned equipment and make adjustments for proper operation.

Operate with proficiency a variety of power tools related to landscape tasks including but not limited to: string trimmers, edgers, blowers, mowers, chainsaws, etc.

Must operate vehicles safely at all times. Operate motor vehicles to perform assigned duties to travel, collect, haul, and dispose of refuse and debris, and as otherwise
necessary to perform assigned duties.

Accept training and educational assignments and adjust actions as needed.

Keep the campus and assigned areas safe, clean, and litter free.

Function as part of a team, assisting and cooperating with other members of the team moving toward common and assigned goals.

Required Qualifications*

• Graduation from high school is necessary.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Possession of a valid State of Michigan's driver's license in good standing is required at all times for employment in this position.
• Able to pass a MDOT physical and maintain certification at all times for employment in this position. UM-Dearborn will pay for testing.
• Have a clear understanding of spoken and written English.
• Able to work in inclement weather.
• Able to work in a team environment.
• Must be available for work after normal hours for snow removal, campus emergencies, or project work as needed.
• This position is considered essential and requires the ability to work a variable work shift to meet seasonal and campus needs. Must be able to work a flexible shift including weekends, overtime, and possibly holidays.
• This position is considered essential and requires the employee to accept on-call assignments and to respond to call-ins for emergency situations including winter weather mitigation.

Desired Qualifications*

• Five years experience removing ice and snow from parking lots, roadways,walks, and drivewaysutilizing snow plow trucks, tractors, utility carts with power brooms, blowers and blades, truck mounted salting equipment, and a variety of hand operated tools.

Solid familiaritywith cleaning, maintaining and lubricating assigned equipment and adjusting for proper operation.
