Job summary

Northern Michigan University seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator to perform snow plowing, ice control, and general vehicle/equipment operation across outdoor facilities, streets, and grounds in varied weather.

Work is through the Plant Operations department with a continuing assignment. A valid Michigan CDL-B with air brakes is required, plus DOT physical and 1 year of heavy equipment experience. Typical hours are seasonal and weather-dependent.

Qualifications

• High School Graduation or Equivalent is required.
• One year of full-time experience operating heavy equipment such as trucks and front-end loaders.
• Six months of commercial snow plowing experience.
• Must pass Michigan DOT physical.

Work Schedule:

Variable depending on weather conditions; typically will be 12 pm to 8 pm

Salary:

Hourly rate: $24.04 starting; $25.24 working

Travel:

No travel

Brief Statement of Duties:

Under general supervision, engage in snow plowing and ice control activities, vehicle/equipment operation and maintain outdoor facilities, streets, parking lots, sidewalks and grounds.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education:

High School Graduation or Equivalent

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:

Must possess a valid Michigan CDL Category B with Air Brakes; applicant must have successfully passed the written portion of the CDL examination at the time of hire and successfully pass the driving examination within 4 months of hire.

Required Minimum Work Experience:

• One year of full-time experience in operating various types of heavy equipment such as heavy trucks and front end loaders, etc.


• Six months of commercial snow plowing experience.


• Must successfully pass Michigan Department of Transportation physical.
