Job summary

City of Universal City in Texas is seeking a part-time Groundskeeper to maintain the municipal golf course, including turf, greens, sand traps, and facilities.

This role performs custodial tasks, assists with golf cart maintenance, and supports the Grounds Superintendent. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid Texas Class C driver’s license.

Work is about 20 hours per week with a flexible schedule; attendance is essential and duties may change as needed.

Qualifications

  • Maintains and repairs sand traps, fairways and roughs by raking, watering, edging, aerifying, weeding and manicuring.
  • Maintains ornamental plantings around golf course facilities and structures.
  • Performs custodial work such as removing trash and leaves around the course and facilities.
  • Assists with golf cart repairs and general policing of the golf course.
  • Works approximately 20 hours per week.
  • Attendance is an essential duty of this position.
  • Performs other duties as required by the Grounds Superintendent.

Job Summary

The Part-Time Groundskeeper provides manual and semi-skilled labor to maintain the municipal golf course’s turfs, facilities, cart paths, and structures, including general care and upkeep.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)
  • Maintains and repairs the putting greens and tees by watering, reseeding, manicuring, spiking topdressing and mowing using specialized equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs sand traps, fairways, and roughs by raking, watering, edging, spiking, aerifying, weeding and manicuring.
  • Maintains and repairs ornamental plantings around golf course facilities and structures.
  • Performs custodial work such as removing trash and leaves from the course and around facilities and structures.
  • Performs related duties by assisting the mechanic with golf cart repairs and policing the golf course.
  • Works approximately 20 hours per week.
  • Attendance is an essential duty of this position.
  • Performs other duties and fulfills responsibilities as required by the Grounds Superintendent.

Required Education and/or Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent. Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have a valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

  • Knowledge of the tools, turf equipment, methods and practices of grounds and turf maintenance on golf course grounds and facilities is preferred.
  • Ability to work under varied climatic conditions.

Occasional exposure to chemicals used in the routine maintenance of the golf course grounds may occur. The employee may face difficult and stressful situations; and may be required to work under time pressures to meet deadlines, to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, to change tasks frequently, to perform tedious and exacting work, and to work closely with others as part of a team. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position working approximately 20 hours per week and is eligible for part-time benefits. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including, but not limited to, early morning hours, weekdays and weekends. Work schedules are subject to change depending on the needs of the department and the City.
