Description

HIRING RATE: $19.71 - $24.15 HOURLY. FULL SALARY RANGE $19.71- $28.59 HOURLY.

The purpose of this position is to ensure good playability and safety of the City’s athletic fields, golf course and turf. This is accomplished by managing turf, operating mowing and other turf equipment, ensuring appropriate turf height, distributing fertilizer as needed, scheduling mowing activities and performing maintenance on turf equipment. Other duties may include documenting and maintaining field & golf course activity reports and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. The position may provide direction to other employees.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain the City’s athletic fields and golf course by determining lawn and chemical needs, operating reel-type and rotary mowers, ensuring proper lawn height, distributing fertilizer when needed and scheduling mowing around irrigation and chemical use.
  • Maintain all lawn, mowing and turf equipment by performing preventive maintenance, replacing faulty parts when necessary, diagnosing equipment problems, reading manuals and completing other repairs as required.
  • Perform turf management functions by distributing rye to seed fields and the golf course, spraying weeds when needed, and vacuuming grass clippings.
  • Complete administrative duties as necessary by documenting field and golf course activity and chemical use and maintaining appropriate forms for other necessary documentation purposes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of relevant experience.

Certification and Other Requirements

  • Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s license or ability to obtain within six (6) months.

  • City, State, and Federal rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Light and heavy equipment operations and maintenance. Appropriate construction/maintenance practices.
  • Equipment, practices, and methods of athletic fields and golf course maintenance.
  • Cultivating, watering, and caring of flowers, trees, and shrubs.

  • Establishing and maintaining working relationships with professional and support staff, vendors, the public, and City employees.

  • Operating assigned equipment and tools in a safe and proper manner.

Physical Demands / Work Environment
  • Ability to work outside, including extreme temperatures, wetness, and humidity.
  • Ability to work with mechanical, chemical, electrical, and fire hazards. Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and hand and power tools.
  • Ability to push, pull, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, twist, climb, and balance frequently.
  • Ability to operate city or personal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Ability to lift 50-100 lbs. rarely, 20-50 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
