Job summary

South Dakota State Government is seeking a Grounds Keeper to maintain lawns, trees, flowers, shrubs, parking areas, and sidewalks across the Capitol Complex. You will operate hand and power tools and landscaping equipment to keep the grounds well cared for.

The role requires outdoor work in all weather, the ability to lift 50+ lbs, and flexibility for outside normal hours. Apply online through the state portal.

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license requirement.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting (50+ lbs.) and other physical labor.
• Operate motorized vehicles, hand and power tools, and related equipment.
• Work schedule: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday–Friday, with flexibility for outside normal hours.
• Knowledge of gardening and grounds maintenance practices.
• Prior experience operating medium and large equipment is beneficial.
• Provide good customer service and tact when interacting with state agencies, co‑workers, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Maintain grounds, landscaping, and parking areas with hand and power tools and equipment.
• Lift furniture and complete office moves when required.
• Work outdoors in all types of weather.
• Follow general instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
