Job summary

VW International seeks a Gardener to perform landscaping and grounds maintenance for the US Coast Guard Training Center (TRACEN) at the Birmingham Southern campus, 900 Arkadelphia Road, Birmingham, AL 35254. The role requires operating mowers, trimmers, and related equipment and passing background checks.

The position involves planting, turf care, seasonal landscaping projects, and reporting maintenance needs to supervisors.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of landscaping or grounds maintenance experience in commercial or military environments.
• Knowledge of lawn care, plant cultivation, fertilization, and landscape maintenance techniques.
• Experience operating landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and blowers.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and site security requirements.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute landscaping and grounds maintenance operations.
• Prepare terrain for landscaping projects and grade as needed.
• Apply fertilizers, seed lawns, lay sod, and maintain turf health.
• Transplant, cultivate, and maintain shrubs, trees, and flowers.
• Plant new lawns and repair existing lawns with appropriate seed mixes.
• Install and maintain landscape features for aesthetics and function.
• Mow, edge, and trim lawns with hand and power equipment.
• Spray trees and shrubs and apply nutrients to maintain health.
• Report equipment issues and safety concerns to supervisor.
• Adhere to safety procedures and environmental regulations.
