Job summary

Delta State University is seeking a Groundskeeper II to maintain campus grounds, sports fields, and related facilities. This full-time, non-tenure track position requires physical work, safety awareness, and the ability to operate landscaping equipment.

Under supervision of Grounds Supervisor, you will perform lawn care, irrigation work, pressure washing, and outdoor cleaning tasks while collaborating with the Facilities Management team.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written instructions.
• Must have a valid US driver's license and be insurable under DSU insurance carrier.
• Ability to maintain university grounds and landscape under general direction.
• Must lift a minimum of 80 pounds and work outdoors in various conditions.
• Experience with lawn maintenance equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

• Picks up trash and debris from grounds, parking areas, walks, and fields.
• Collects and disposes of debris from campus using approved methods.
• Cuts lawns, trims around walks, curbs, beds, and walls with grounds tools.
• Waters lawns and plant materials; applies fertilizers.
• Sprays herbicides/pesticides under supervision with sprayers.
• Rakes leaves; cleans drainage ditches and catch basins.
• Cleans building exteriors and campus pavement with cleaners and power washers.
• Sweeps streets; removes snow and debris as required.
• Prunes shrubs, ground cover, and trees under supervision.
• Assists irrigation modifications and sprinkler head repairs.
• Patches holes and paints striping in parking areas.
• Maintains grounds and athletic/golf facilities per standards.

Responsibilities:

• Picks up trash and debris from University grounds, parking areas,walks, streets, sports fields, ditches, culverts, and catch basins.
• Collects and removes debris and trash from campus and disposes ofsuch through approved methods.
• Cuts lawns, trims and edges aroundwalks, curbs, planting beds, and walls using appropriate groundsmaintenance tools.
• Waters lawns and plant materials, appliesfertilizers.
• Under the direction of the Grounds Supervisor orSuperintendent, sprays herbicides and pesticides using pump-up andback pack sprayers.
• Rakes and removes leaves; cleans drainageditches, culverts, and catch basins.
• Cleans building exteriors,entrances, and campus pavement areas using brooms, sweepers, powerwashers, and blowers/vacuums.
• Sweeps and cleans streets; removessnow, ice, and debris from streets and walks as required.
• Under thedirection of the Grounds Supervisor, prunes shrubs, ground cover,ornamental grasses, and trees.
• Assists the Grounds Supervisor withmodification and repair of irrigation PVC pipe and sprinkler heads.
• Patches holes in asphalt parking and driveways and paints stripingand crosswalks.
• Maintains the grounds, athletic fields, and golfcourse in acceptable manner according to DSU and industrystandards.
• Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
• Must be able to work extra hours and weekends as needed orrequired.

Qualifications:

• Ability to effectivelymaintain the University grounds and landscape under the generaldirection of the Crew Leader.
• Ability to operate maintenance andconstruction equipment including various types of commercialmowers, line trimmers, edgers, blowers, tillers, power washers,pump-up and back pack sprayers, pruning equipment, paint stripingmachine, as well as typical maintenance hand tools.
• Ability tooperate fertilizer spreader, golf and utility carts.
• Ability tosafety operate trucks and vans with trailers in tow and navigatesafely through campus streets and narrow driveways.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 80 pounds, climb ladders, work in tight spacesincluding trenches, and work outdoors in temperature and weatherextremes.
• Must be able to read, write, and understand oral andwritten instructions.
• Must have a valid US driver's license and beinsurable under DSU insurance carrier.
• Experience with lawnmaintenance equipment and tools.

Salary:

HourlyCommensurate with experience and qualifications
