Job summary

Delta State University is seeking two full-time Housekeepers to join the Housekeeping department. Responsibilities include cleaning diverse spaces, operating floor care equipment, and maintaining storage and cleanliness standards. Must have a valid Mississippi driver’s license and ability to follow written instructions.

Open date 04/03/2024; open until filled. This non-tenure track staff position offers hourly pay commensurate with experience and university policies.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform routine custodial duties in suites, offices, classrooms and common areas.
• Clean and maintain restrooms, windows and fixtures; polish furniture and clean glass.
• Operate cleaning equipment and handle floor care per instructions.
• Maintain storage areas and report repairs or safety hazards to supervisor.
• Lift and move objects up to 30–60 pounds as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine and more complex custodial duties. Cleans and dustsareas such as suites, offices, classrooms, kitchens, living spaces,laboratories, lobbies, museums, locker rooms, stairways, corridorsand elevators. Dust mop and wet mop floors. Cleans and polishesfurniture and cleans windows. Spray buffs, strips, seals and waxesfloors as instructed using appropriate equipment. Cleans andmaintains restrooms and bathrooms. Clean glass, chalkboards,display cases, interior partitions, light fixtures, etc. Refillstoilet paper, paper towel, and soap dispensers. Cleans and polisheshardware such as door handles, push plates, kick plates, metalhandrails, drinking fountains, and restroom trim (external piping,faucets, traps and valves). Vacuum, spot clean and shampooscarpets. Removes and cleans floor mats and entrance rug runners.Wash walls, doors and woodwork. Moves furniture and equipment asrequired. Maintain storage areas in a clean and orderly manner.Maintain adequate supply of cleaning equipment, materials andsupplies. Use cleaning tools such as mops, brooms, squeegees,cleaning cloths, sponges, pails brushes, vacuum cleaners and floormachines. Turn in found articles in accordance with Universitypolicy. Removes trash and trash containers from buildings todesignated disposal areas. Reports all repairs required and safetyand fire hazards to building secretary and immediate supervisor.Observe safety standards and practices. Perform related duties asrequired or assigned within job classification. Lift and carryobjects of at least 30-60 pounds unassisted, assist others inmoving objects greater than 30-60 pounds. Clean exterior windows onupper level buildings using commercial man lifts or other specifiedequipment. Assist in employee training when necessary. Must beavailable to work extra hours and weekends.
