Sinclair Community College in Dayton, OH invites applications for a Groundskeeper I (Part-Time) to maintain and enhance the appearance, safety, and functionality of campus grounds and landscaped areas.

Responsibilities include turf care, irrigation system maintenance, sidewalk upkeep, snow and ice removal, and supervision of student workers. The position pays $15.71 per hour with a maximum of 28 hours per week, and offers tuition benefits, advancement opportunities, and pension participation.

• Operate and maintain grounds equipment (tractors, mowers, loaders, backhoe, truck, sprayer, forklift, etc.).
• Keep campus grounds free of trash; perform general cleanup.
• Maintain shrub beds, flowerbeds, trees; fertilize, mulch, prune; pest control as needed.
• Supervise student and part-time employees.
• Keep records of chemical applications, equipment maintenance and inventories.
• Other duties: holiday lighting, wildlife control, recycling, trash hauling.

Position Summary

The Sinclair Groundskeeper I position is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the appearance, safety, and functionality of campus grounds and landscaped areas. Duties include inspecting and maintaining landscaping, irrigation systems, sidewalks, streets, signage, and other exterior campus features; performing routine maintenance on grounds equipment; and providing snow and ice removal during inclement weather. This position also assists with campus beautification projects and provides oversight and direction to part-time and student employees.

The hourly pay rate for this position is $15.71 and has a maximum of 28 hours per week.

Principal Accountabilities

• Provide turf care to include mowing, edging, trimming, fertilizer applications, herbicide applications and insecticide applications
• Maintain all pedestrian sidewalks and concrete pavers in a safe clean manner to include snow removal and deicing, and sweeping of sidewalks as well as emergency repairs as necessary
• Maintain and repair irrigation systems to include diagnosing and troubleshooting systems and operation of computerized control system
• Operate and maintain all equipment in the Grounds Department to include tractors, mowers, front end loaders, backhoe, truck, sprayer, forklift, utility vehicles and rental equipment
• Police campus grounds for trash to include emptying trash receptacles, picking up trash and general cleanup
• Provide maintenance of all shrub beds, groundcover beds, flowerbeds and trees on campus to include fertilizing, weed control, pest control, mulching and pruning
• Supervision of student and part-time employees
• Keep accurate records of all chemical applications, equipment maintenance and inventories of supplies
• Other duties as assigned to include but not limited to: Holiday lighting display installation and removal, supervision of student workers, wildlife control, recycling and building trash hauling

Requirements

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in landscape maintenance, garden center sales or appropriate course work/training required
• Minimum of 2 years’ work experience in irrigation systems or formal irrigation training with the ability to perform troubleshooting and diagnostics required
• Valid State of Ohio Driver's License and insurability by College’s insurance provider required
• Knowledge of plant materials and insect and disease identification preferred
