The expected hiring range for this position is:
$30.45-$39.37.

About the Role:

The Fermilab Infrastructure Services Division seeks a motivated Roads and Grounds Crew Chief to join the Roads & Grounds Group. Under supervision, you will maintain Fermilab site roads, grounds, and facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and perform snow removal, oversee snow removal crews.
• Maintain landscapes: mowing, trimming, pruning, plant care, pesticide application, fertilizing.
• Perform landscaping repairs: hauling, spreading, seeding topsoil, erosion control.
• Participate in tree removal activities with appropriate equipment.
• Assist in prairie and woodland restoration, including prescribed burns and invasive species control.
• Maintain storm water drainage systems: cleaning, repairing, replacing culverts, catch basins, drainage tiles.
• Manage Fermilab-owned bison and assist with wildlife control.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Follow all environmental, health, safety regulations.

Required Skills and Attributes:

• Valid CDL A or B license without restrictions.
• Illinois Department of Agriculture Pesticide Applicator’s license.
• Willingness to obtain Illinois Certified Prescribed Burn Manager Certificate.
• Completed OSHA 30 Hr. Construction training.
• Basic computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
• Ability to work independently and in teams.
• Adhere to safety and environmental regulations.
• Respect and value diversity and inclusion.

Work Conditions:

• Physical: Heavy lifting, heights, repetitive motion, outdoor work, sitting, standing, vibrating equipment.
• Chemical: Exposure to engines, pesticides.
• Environmental: Cold, hot, wet, dry conditions, high noise levels.
• Protection: Use of PPE for eyes, face, feet, hands, hearing.
• Biological: Animals, insects, poisonous plants.

Work Arrangement:

This is an onsite role based in Batavia, IL. Work arrangements may change based on business needs.
