Job description

Overview

Responsible for supervising day-to-day billing operations of the assigned billing service and overseeing the pre-certification and verification process for patient insurance information. Coach and mentor team members, assign tasks, and ensure effective resource utilization. Respond to complex, escalated inquiries from team members and review work to ensure accurate payroll processing.

Location: Remote, preferably within the UnityPoint Health regions of Iowa, Illinois, or Wisconsin

Hours: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to ensure efficient office operations, optimize performance, and improve quality outcomes in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Oversee daily workflow, review staffing needs, and supervise and train staff in customer relations and office procedures.
  • Establish effective communication with team members, patients, affiliates, and insurance companies to promote trust, teamwork, and staff development.
  • Manage operations fiscally by minimizing waste.
  • Coordinate and plan monthly staff meetings.
  • Handle hiring, interviewing, and staff selection processes.
  • Set productivity guidelines, monitor staff productivity and errors, and recommend training based on these metrics.
  • Adjust staff responsibilities as needed to meet department goals.
  • Collaborate with managers and trainers to develop effective training programs for new and existing staff.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals for direct reports.
  • Provide computer support to CBO staff, supporting systems such as LastWord, CareMedic, Softco/PC Doc, and PCAP.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • At least two years of experience in patient accounting, healthcare insurance, or healthcare collections.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic and procedural coding and insurance claim submission processes.
  • Understanding of personnel administration and patient relations principles.
