Job summary

Suburban Inns is seeking a Grounds Team Member to maintain lawns, landscapes, and snow removal across properties. You will operate mowers and power equipment, perform pruning and trimming, and assist with warehouse tasks as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license, and flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays. Travel to other Suburban Inns locations may be required.

Responsibilities

• Operate mowers, tractors, snow removal equipment and other powered tools.
• Use hand tools for pruning, edging, trimming and related grounds work.
• Mow, edge, prune, mulch, weed, and maintain lawns and flower beds.
• Inspect equipment and perform routine maintenance or arrange repairs.
• Maintain sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and other grounds features.
• Follow safety rules to keep a clean, safe work environment.
• Assist with warehouse tasks such as storage, receiving, dispatching, and sanitation.

Grounds Team Member:

As a Grounds Team Member you would be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of Suburban Inns grounds, including landscaping and snow removal. Assist with warehouse activities, including storage, receiving, dispatching, security, maintenance, and sanitation.

Essential Functions

• Operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, etc.
• Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, hedge or bush trimmers, or axes
• Mow and edge lawns using power mowers, edgers, weed whips, and leaf blowers
• Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges using shears, pruners, or chain saws
• Inspect equipment, tools, and machinery regularly, and oversee general maintenance and repair as necessary
• Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming around flower beds, walks, or walls
• Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, or other grounds features
• Clean flower beds; rake, mulch, and compost leaves
• Mix and spray and/or spread fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees using hand or automatic sprayers/spreaders
• Remove snow from grounds via plow, shovel, Gehl, etc.
• Maintain awareness and knowledge of the condition and location of company fleet vehicles and trailers focusing on routine upkeep (directional lights, tires, brakes, oil, etc.)
• Follow proper securing protocol (chaining, tiedowns) of equipment for transporting
• Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment
• Maintain a positive attitude throughout the day, and keep team member morale high
• Follow all Suburban Inns Processes
• Undertake special projects requested by management
• Exhibit regular and recurrent attendance

Position Requirements

• Minimum Knowledge: This position requires ability to interpret / extract information and / perform arithmetic functions. Requires typing, record keeping, word processing, and excellent communication skills.
• Formal Education and Job-Related Experience: This position requires a minimum formal education of a high school diploma or equivalent related experience
• License, Registration, and/or Certification Required: This position requires a valid driver’s license, signed nondisclosure and confidentiality agreement, and passed background check.
• Work Schedule: Work may vary between day, evening, night, holiday, and/or weekend assignments. Schedule varies according to business demands and needs
• Required Travel: Position does involve travel to other Suburban Inns properties and off-site meetings

Uniform and Appearance Guidelines

• Uniform: Closed-steel toed shoes, safety colored shirt
• Appearance: All facial piercings must be approved by management. Hair must be kept well-groomed. All tattoos that are not covered by a work uniform must be approved in writing by management. Any tattoo that is deemed offensive to co-workers, guests, vendors or others in the workplace based on racial, sexual, religious, ethnic, or other characteristics or attributes of a sensitive or legally protected nature are not permitted and must remain covered or concealed at all times.
