Job summary

Suburban Inns is seeking a Grounds Team Member to maintain our property including landscaping and snow removal. You will assist with warehouse activities and help keep the grounds clean, safe, and welcoming for guests and staff.

This role requires physical work, operation of lawn care equipment, and strict adherence to safety guidelines. A valid driver’s license is required and occasional travel to other Suburban Inns properties may occur.

Qualifications

• Ability to interpret information and perform arithmetic functions.
• Typing, record keeping, word processing and strong communication skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent and related experience required.
• Valid driver’s license, NDAs and background check required.
• Work schedule varies by day/evening/night/holiday/weekend.

Responsibilities

• Operate mowers, tractors, snow blowers, and other equipment safely.
• Mow, edge, prune, and maintain lawns and beds with hand tools.
• Inspect and maintain equipment and perform routine repairs as needed.
• Support with warehouse tasks including receiving and dispatching.
• Maintain sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas in good condition.
• Follow safety rules and ensure a clean, positive work environment.
• Participate in special projects and demonstrate dependable attendance.

Grounds Team Member:

As a Grounds Team Member you would be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of Suburban Inns grounds, including landscaping and snow removal. Assist with warehouse activities, including storage, receiving, dispatching, security, maintenance, and sanitation.

Essential Functions

• Operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, etc.
• Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, hedge or bush trimmers, or axes
• Mow and edge lawns using power mowers, edgers, weed whips, and leaf blowers
• Prune or trim trees, shrubs, or hedges using shears, pruners, or chain saws
• Inspect equipment, tools, and machinery regularly, and oversee general maintenance and repair as necessary
• Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming around flower beds, walks, or walls
• Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, or other grounds features
• Clean flower beds; rake, mulch, and compost leaves
• Mix and spray and/or spread fertilizers, herbicides, insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees using hand or automatic sprayers/spreaders
• Remove snow from grounds via plow, shovel, Gehl, etc.
• Maintain awareness and knowledge of the condition and location of company fleet vehicles and trailers focusing on routine upkeep (directional lights, tires, brakes, oil, etc.)
• Follow proper securing protocol (chaining, tiedowns) of equipment for transporting
• Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment
• Maintain a positive attitude throughout the day, and keep team member morale high
• Follow all Suburban Inns Processes
• Undertake special projects requested by management
• Exhibit regular and recurrent attendance

Position Requirements

• Minimum Knowledge: This position requires ability to interpret / extract information and / perform arithmetic functions. Requires typing, record keeping, word processing, and excellent communication skills.
• Formal Education and Job-Related Experience: This position requires a minimum formal education of a high school diploma or equivalent related experience
• License, Registration, and/or Certification Required: This position requires a valid driver’s license, signed nondisclosure and confidentiality agreement, and passed background check.
• Work Schedule: Work may vary between day, evening, night, holiday, and/or weekend assignments. Schedule varies according to business demands and needs
• Required Travel: Position does involve travel to other Suburban Inns properties and off-site meetings

Uniform and Appearance Guidelines

• Uniform: Closed-steel toed shoes, safety colored shirt
• Appearance: All facial piercings must be approved by management. Hair must be kept well-groomed. All tattoos that are not covered by a work uniform must be approved in writing by management. Any tattoo that is deemed offensive to co-workers, guests, vendors or others in the workplace based on racial, sexual, religious, ethnic, or other characteristics or attributes of a sensitive or legally protected nature are not permitted and must remain covered or concealed at all times.
