Job summary

State of North Carolina - Adult Correction seeks a Grounds Supervisor I at Central Prison in Raleigh. This full-time role oversees grounds maintenance, supervises crews, and coordinates with the maintenance team to ensure proper upkeep of gardens, sidewalks and grounds.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED plus three years in grounds upkeep, and offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance and retirement plans. Working hours are 40 per week, typical 8am–5pm.

Qualifications

• High School or GED diploma AND three years of progressive experience in grounds upkeep; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Documented knowledge of horticultural practices and/or techniques applicable to the layout and upkeep of formal gardens and/or grounds.
• Documented working knowledge of landscaping.

Responsibilities

• Providing construction, modification, and general upkeep of grounds areas with standard horticultural practices.
• Confer with superiors on proposed work assignments and scheduling procedures.
• Supervise crews in mowing lawns, sidewalks, parking lots, and gardens; oversee equipment operators in grounds maintenance tasks.
• Supervise excavation, tree removal, and wrecking of old buildings as needed.
• Supervise repair of surfaced roads and removal of trash, leaves, and snow.
• Prepare requisitions for supplies, materials, and equipment.
• Consult with nurserymen on plant adaptability and supply sources.
• Coordinate grounds upkeep with building maintenance for efficient use of equipment, labs, and materials.
• Perform other related work as needed.
