Job summary

The Merwin Conservancy in Haik seeks a part-time Caretaker to perform day-to-day grounds and property maintenance, ensuring safety, readiness for programs, and structural integrity. The hourly position requires 18 hours per week with a regular schedule plus occasional on-call work to address emergencies or program needs.

Qualifications

• Property management experience and ability to manage multiple tasks
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
• Ability to follow directions with collaborative communication
• Comfort with Microsoft Office and Google Platform tools
• Ability to perform general maintenance tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs
• First aid training or willingness to become certified
• Self-directed and proactive in addressing issues
• Valid driver license and ability to run errands between sites

Responsibilities

• Maintain ongoing maintenance of structures and systems to ensure safety and longevity
• Serve as primary contact for vendors and contractors on site
• Execute a maintenance plan detailing activity frequency
• Maintain records of improvements and repairs (sites listed)
• Provide safety coordination and adhere to policies
• Support on-site programming with safety plans and supplies
• Attend scheduled garden tours, volunteer days, and coordinate with staff
• Communicate regularly with Head of Horticulture, Garden & Grounds and team
• Assist with other duties as assigned
