Job summary

Fayette County Administration is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker to perform landscaping duties such as mowing, planting, edging, debris removal, and equipment operation.

This full-time position requires basic reading/writing and math skills and a valid Georgia driver's license if required for the job. The role includes maintaining parks, irrigation work, trimming vegetation, and assisting with snow/ice removal while ensuring a safe outdoor environment for residents.

• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Georgia driver's license for vehicle/equipment operation.

Responsibilities

• Operates county vehicle and various tools/equipment to complete tasks such as mowing, weed eating, blowing, tilling, and equipment maintenance.
• Picks up trash and debris at park facilities; cleans restrooms.
• Checks playgrounds for safety and makes needed repairs to equipment.
• Maintains machinery and tools, inspects equipment, and reports faults.
• Available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job description

This is a full-time position with benefits. The Grounds Maintenance Worker performs a variety of landscaping duties: mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, or mulch; applies herbicides and pesticides; prunes trees and shrubs; weeds flower beds; aerates and spreads grass seed; services irrigation systems; grooms and lines ball fields; and removes snow and ice,etc. An incumbent in this position may be designated a Grounds Maintenance Worker I, II, or III.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

1. 1. Operates or uses a County vehicle, and various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments such as lawn mower, weed eater, blowers, tillers, bobcat, tractor, dump truck, wheel barrel, jack hammer, sledge hammer, saws, chippers, back hoes, and other power or motorized equipment.
2. 2. Picks up trash and debris at park facilities; cleans restrooms.
3. 3. Checks playground for safety and makes any needed repairs to equipment.
4. 4. Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop and work areas: monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment.
5. 5. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational goals.
6. 6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• No experience requirements.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's licenses issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
