Job summary

Cobb County Government in Georgia is seeking several park maintenance positions within the Parks Department at Noonday Zone (489 Hawkins Store Rd, 30144 Kennesaw), Bishop Zone (1792 County Services Parkway, Marietta 30008), and Mountain Zone (4845 Dallas Hwy, Powder Springs 30127). Duties include landscaping, maintenance and custodial work across parks and facilities, with equipment operation and light carpentry or plumbing tasks as needed.

The starting rate will not exceed $17.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
• Tasks require heavy physical effort (20-50 pounds; up to 100 pounds occasionally).

Responsibilities

• Performs landscaping duties: mows, plants, weed eats, edges, clears debris, and maintains irrigation systems.
• Performs maintenance and construction tasks: resurfaces/renovates playgrounds, paints, repairs fences and equipment, light carpentry.
• Performs custodial duties and manages inventory of equipment and supplies.

Job description

There are several vacant positions located in the PARKS Department at the following locations:

• Noonday Zone - 489 Hawkins Store RD. 30144 Kennesaw, GA
• Bishop Zone- 1792 County Services Parkway Marietta, GA 30008
• Mountain Zone- 4845 Dallas Hwy, Powder Springs, GA 30127

The starting rate for this position will not exceed $17.00 per hour.

Performs a variety of landscaping duties: mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, or mulch; applies herbicides and pesticides; prunes trees and shrubs; weeds flower beds; aerates and spreads grass seed; services irrigation systems; grooms and lines ball fields; and removes snow and ice, etc.

Performs maintenance and construction tasks for various parks and facilities: resurfaces and renovates playgrounds, fields and courts; paints buildings, equipment, and parking lots; repairs and assembles fences and playground equipment; builds sets and staging, shelves and other items; and performs light plumbing, electrical, masonry and carpentry repairs, etc.

Performs general custodial duties at various parks and facilities: cleans parks, ball fields, restrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and other areas; vacuums carpets; hoses decks; scrubs and waxes floors; dusts; washes windows; empties trash; and sets ups and tears down staging, chairs, tables, bleachers, etc. for meetings, classes, tournaments, and events.

Maintains inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: gathers supplies and equipment to complete work assignments; transports supplies to and from work site; initiates orders for materials and equipment needed; and maintains related documentation.

Operates or uses a County vehicle, and various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments such as lawn mower, weedeater, blowers, tillers, bobcat, tractor, dump truck, wheel barrel, jack hammer, sledge hammer, saws, chippers, back hoes, and other power or motorized equipment.

Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop and work areas: monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in parks maintenance, landscaping or related field. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License, including appropriate endorsements. Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
