Fayette County Chamber of Commerce is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker to perform landscaping duties at county facilities. This is a full-time position with benefits, including lawn care, planting, debris removal, and irrigation system service.
The role requires operating county vehicles and various power tools, with responsibilities spanning safety checks, routine maintenance, and occasional after-hours work to meet goals.
This is a full-time position with benefits. The Grounds Maintenance Worker performs a variety of landscaping duties: mows grass; plants flowers and shrubs; weed eats around signs and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, or mulch; applies herbicides and pesticides; prunes trees and shrubs; weeds flower beds; aerates and spreads grass seed; services irrigation systems; grooms and lines ball fields; and removes snow and ice,etc. An incumbent in this position may be designated a Grounds Maintenance Worker I, II, or III.
Major duties include but are not limited to:
1. Operates or uses a County vehicle, and various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments such as lawn mower, weed eater, blowers, tillers, bobcat, tractor, dump truck, wheel barrel, jack hammer, sledge hammer, saws, chippers, back hoes, and other power or motorized equipment.
2. Picks up trash and debris at park facilities; cleans restrooms.
3. Checks playground for safety and makes any needed repairs to equipment.
4. Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop and work areas: monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment.
5. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational goals.
6. Performs other related duties as assigned.
