Job summary

A community-centered organization is seeking a grounds maintenance worker in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. This role involves various landscape tasks, including mowing, trimming, planting, and cleaning. Job description

Location: Melwood-PG Campus, 5606 Dowerhouse Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772, USA.

Position location: Columbia, Maryland.

Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm.

Pay rate: $17.20 per hour.

Introduction

Under the supervision of the Grounds Foreman, performs those grounds tasks necessary to meet Landscape contract specifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cut lawns, using hand mower or power mower.
  • Trim and edge around walks, flower beds and walls, using clippers and edging tools.
  • Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears.
  • Rake leaves and clean or sweep up litter using spiked stick or broom.
  • Shovel snow from walks and driveways.
  • Spread salt on public passage ways.
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees and shrubs.
  • Water lawn and shrubs during dry periods using hose or by activating fixed or portable sprinkler system.
  • Clean out drainage ditches and culverts, using shovel and rake.
  • May operate walking type power mowers, snow blowers, roto tillers or riding mowers.
  • May operate chain saws, hedge trimmers and other hand held power operated tools to prune, cultivate, shovel, trim, cut and dig.
  • May use tractor equipped with attachments, such as mowers, lime or fertilizer spreaders and lawn roller.
  • May perform a variety of laboring duties when yard work is completed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions

Physical qualifications: The incumbent must be able to stand 33%, walk 33% and sit 33% of the work time. Must be able to lift/carry 60 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds. Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and handle materials and equipment. Must be able to alert themselves to safety hazards and communicate for safety. Must be able to see and distinguish colors. Must work outside under extreme temperature and weather conditions. Work conditions may be inconvenienced by dust, dirt, fumes, or flying objects (grass). Heavy lifting may be required, handling materials up to 100 pounds.

Qualifications

At least 1 year of experience in landscape maintenance work including experience in mowing with push mower and weeding. Should be able to provide own transportation to work site. Must be able to work independently.
