Job description

Overview

Position Title: Grounds Maintenance Laborer

Location: Baltimore, Maryland

Work Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, full‑time (40 hrs weekly)

Hourly Wage: $18.08

The position is set aside for a person with a disability. Documented proof of disability must be provided before interview. Proof requires a written report signed by a licensed physician, psychiatrist, or qualified psychologist that describes the nature and extent of the disability. This is a non‑exempt role, eligible for overtime. Employees receive comprehensive benefits and employer‑paid health care contributions.

Applicants must successfully complete a criminal history and drug screening, and be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Responsibilities
  • Operate walking‑type or riding mowers (<2000 lbs) to trim hedges, edges, and plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  • Apply fertilizer or insecticide to lawn, shrubs, and trees, and maintain watering systems.
  • Collect, dispose of leaves, litter, or snow, and spread salt on walkways.
  • Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings.
  • Assist in road, walk, building, and mechanical equipment repair; clean comfort stations, offices, workshop areas, and parking lots.
  • Cleans landscaped areas, storm drains, and related items to prevent flooding and hazards.
  • Work at heights up to 12 ft using ladders, lifts, or scaffolding to complete projects not reachable from ground level.
  • Respond to emergency situations (e.g., downed trees, limbs, fences) to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are in safe operating condition; transport supplies as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Work is primarily outdoors under extreme temperatures and weather. Conditions may involve dust, dirt, fumes, or flying grass blades.

Physical Qualifications

Must be able to stand 33 %, walk 33 %, and sit 33 % of the work time. Must lift/carry 60 lbs and push/pull 100 lbs. Must climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle materials to load and unload equipment. Must be able to alert to safety hazards, communicate effectively, and see/correctly identify colors while operating power equipment.

Qualifications
  • At least one year of landscape maintenance experience, including mowing with a push mower and weeding.
  • Valid personal transportation to work site.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Show willingness to pass pre‑employment background checks, including E‑Verify.
