Grounds Maintenance Laborer

About the Position

Grounds Maintenance Laborer – a role dedicated to maintaining grounds of industrial, commercial, or public property such as buildings, camps, picnic grounds, parks, playgrounds, greenhouses, and athletic fields, and repairing structures and equipment.

Key Information

• Location: Baltimore, Maryland.
• Core Working Hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
• Hourly Wage: $18.08.
• Employment Type: Full‑time, non‑exempt with overtime eligibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform general grounds labor using walking‑type or riding mowers (≤ 2000 lb), trim hedges and edges, prune shrubs and trees, and spray lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer or insecticide.
• Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs; water lawn and shrubs during dry periods using hose or sprinkler system; pick up and dispose of leaves and litter; remove snow from walkways, driveways, roads, or parking lots; spread salt on walkways; repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails, and outbuildings.
• Assist in the repair of roads, walkways, buildings, and mechanical equipment; clean comfort stations, office workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping, and polishing.
• Clean landscaped areas and related items (e.g., storm drains, litter) to prevent flooding and remove hazards.
• Work at heights up to 12 ft using an extension ladder, hydraulic lift, or scaffolding.
• Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns (e.g., downed trees, limbs, fences).
• Maintain tools and equipment, ensuring they are safe and operational; transport tools, equipment, and supplies to job sites.
• Perform any other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Mainly outside. Conditions may involve extreme temperatures, weather, dust, dirt, fumes, or flying objects such as grass.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must be able to stand 33%, walk 33% and sit 33% of the work time. Must lift/carry 60 lb and push/pull 100 lb, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and handle equipment. Must alert to safety hazards and communicate effectively. Must see and tell colors.

QUALIFICATIONS

At least one year of experience in landscape maintenance work, including mowing with a push mower and weeding. Must have own transportation to the work site and be able to work independently.
