Job summary

Solitude Mountain Resort in Utah seeks a Village Grounds Technician I to maintain safe, guest-friendly village areas, assist with loading zones, and perform year-round landscaping and snow removal. You will help shape the resort's outdoor beauty and guest experience in every season.

Responsibilities include landscaping, irrigation management, equipment operation, and collaboration with other departments. A positive attitude and flexible schedule are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Must have sufficient communication skills to answer guest questions and the physical ability necessary to complete all other Village Grounds duties and responsibilities including cleaning.
  • Must have the desire and ability to tolerate and work in varying weather conditions for extended periods including cold temperatures, inclement weather, and moving between indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • The ability to meet and/or exceed satisfactory performance levels in all duties as assigned.
  • Willing to work flexible schedules, dependent on weather patterns.
  • General mechanical skills necessary for routine building maintenance (i.e. changing light bulbs, replacing smoke detector batteries, fixing a running toilet, lighting fireplace pilots, etc)
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Proven experience in landscaping, preferably in a resort or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of native plants, landscaping techniques, and irrigation systems relevant to Utah's climate.
  • Ability to operate landscaping equipment and machinery safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for maintaining high-quality outdoor spaces.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and other resort departments.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Snow removal with snow shovels and power-assisted snow removal equipment
  • Constant and continuous collection of trash and debris, sweeping, etc.
  • Assist resort lodging guests with general maintenance needs
  • Assist Club Solitude with pool chemical readings and pool maintenance
  • Be open to willingly accept other grounds maintenance duties and responsibilities within the department.
  • Communicate pleasantly and respectfully with fellow employees and guests
  • Assist guests with parking directions and with their equipment in loading zones. Possess and implement a thorough knowledge of appropriate procedures
  • Be tactful and diplomatic when interacting with guests
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures
  • Grounds Maintenance: Perform routine landscaping tasks such as mowing, edging, weeding, and pruning to keep the resort grounds in pristine condition.
  • Seasonal Planting: Assist in the selection, planting, and care of flowers, shrubs, and trees to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the resort during each season.
  • Irrigation Management: Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper hydration of plants and turf, especially considering Utah's unique climate and water conservation efforts.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate landscaping equipment and machinery safely and efficiently, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and snow removal equipment.
  • Landscape Design: Collaborate with the landscaping team to implement design plans that align with the resort's overall aesthetic and theme.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Uphold environmentally friendly landscaping practices, such as composting, mulching, and integrated pest management, to minimize our ecological footprint.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing landscaping duties, including proper handling of equipment and chemicals.

REPORTS TO: Village Grounds Supervisor and Village Operations Manager

CLASSIFICATION: Year-Round/ Full-Time/ Hourly
DEPARTMENT: Village Operations
Position

Maintain a safe and guest-friendly environment in parking lots and village areas; maintain safe and efficient loading zones; remove snow and ice from walkways and resort common areas; perform guest surveys; perform all other aspects and daily operations of the Village Grounds Department that may be assigned. Help maintain and enhance the natural beauty of the village grounds. As a grounds tech, you will play a vital role in creating an inviting and picturesque environment for our guests to enjoy year-round.
