Job summary

Alterra Mountain Company is seeking a Seasonal Groomer Level 2 at Solitude Mountain Resort to maintain a quality skiable surface. The role involves snowcat operation, snowmaking duties, and equipment inspections in demanding winter conditions.

Responsibilities include leading Level 1 operators, following safety procedures, and staying adaptable to high-altitude terrain. A strong work ethic and reliable transportation are required for winter shifts.

Qualifications

• Must have completed Level 1 operator certification and completed Level 2 operator certification.
• Preferably has a minimum of 2 seasons consecutive snowcat operating experience.
• Ability to operate heavy winter equipment and perform equipment inspections.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and ski/ride groomed slopes for quality control.

Responsibilities

• Operate snowmaking equipment and snow guns during preseason.
• Inspect and service equipment and maintain records.
• Lead Level 1 operators and mentor teammates.
• Ensure safety, cleanliness, and proper radio etiquette on the slope.
• Report issues promptly and assist with minor repairs as needed.

DIVISION:

REPORTS TO:

Shift Supervisor, Slopes Maintenance Manager, and Director of Mnt Ops.

LOCATION:

Solitude Mountain Resort

CLASSIFICATION:

Full-time /Hourly/Seasonal

POSITION:

Slope Maintenance Level 2, non-supervisory position that is responsible for producing a quality skiable surface, snowcat operation, and snowmaking operations.

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• The ability to meet requirements of Level 1.
• Preferably has a minimum of 2 seasons consecutive snowcat operating experience.
• The ability to operate a loader, tele handler, and excavator.
• Attention to detail.
• Safety consciousness is required.
• Has good spatial awareness.
• Has hydraulic equipment experience.
• Equipment Inspection.
• Equipment Care.
• Ability to climb into Machinery.
• Has the ability to lift 50lbs.
• Has the ability to follow direction.
• Dress appropriately for winter.
• Has the ability to ski/ride groomed slopes (in order for quality control).
• Ability to work well with others.
• Must have sufficient transportation (4wd, Awd, with acceptable tires) and be willing to drive to work in inclement weather.
• Has a good understanding of ski resort operations.
• Follow resort policies and procedures as described in the Staff Handbook.
• Act as a positive, professional role model, adhering to the company's standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Knowledge of Skier Responsibility Code and Solitude Mountain Resort's Code of Conduct
• Ability to perform essential job functions in various types of terrain and weather.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work as a snowmaker preseason (starting as early as mid-October). Snowmaking involves operating and maintaining snow guns, hydrants, hoses, and pumps, heavy lifting and snow shoveling. Working outside in cold and wet conditions. Night work.
• Competently perform the required vehicle and equipment inspections and servicing records
• Safely operate equipment that the operator has been trained to operate
• Be responsive to direction and instruction during training and while performing assignments.
• Provide a quality product and focus on improving techniques.
• Quickly and accurately report any problems with products and equipment.
• Assist mechanics or coworkers with minor repairs and equipment changes.
• Maintain the cleanliness of equipment and facilities
• Exhibit professional conduct and proper radio etiquette.
• Have basic knowledge of snowmaking system.
• Be proficient in ski slope maintenance.
• Inspect work of Level 1 operators.
• Know Solitude Mountain ski run names, locations, and fall lines.
• The ability to lead Level 1 operators.
• The ability to complete assigned projects timely.
• Takes accountability of ski conditions in area of assignment.
• Complete or have completed Level 1 operator certification.
• Complete Level 2 operator certification.

• Work schedules may include weekends, on call, and holidays
