Groundskeepers are responsible for efficiently producing quality landscape service that meets or exceeds the standards of clients and management. Groundskeepers typically perform a variety of tasks which may include any combination of the following:
- sod laying
- mowing
- trimming
- planting
- watering
- fertilizing
- digging
- raking
- sprinkler installation and repair
- preparing trucks for the day (loading gas cans, mowers and other equipment)
- operating powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, snow blowers, chain‑saws, electric clippers, sod cutters and pruning saws
- shoveling snow from walks, driveways and parking lots and spreading salt
- pruning shrubs and trees, clearing debris, pruning and trimming with hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, hedge/brush trimmers, axes, shears, pruners or chain‑saws
- seeding, including the preparation and application of erosion control blanket, fertilizer, herbicide, pesticide, fungicide, aquatic applications, raking, watering of trees, shrubs, plants, flowers, bulbs, seeds and sod
- cleaning sites and maintaining sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters and other ground features
- performing maintenance on equipment, washing equipment and trucks, and repairing tools and structures such as fences, benches and minor building maintenance
- providing support for snow removal and availability on weekends and holidays as needed
Essential Functions
Oversee day‑to‑day groundskeeping duties, ensuring all tasks are completed to client and management standards. Maintain equipment and implement reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in lawn care and the ability to operate various lawn care machinery, including mowers, edgers, and backpack blowers.
- Good communication and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Problem‑solving ability and self‑starter attitude.
- Self‑motivation, ability to work with minimal supervision, and flexibility to work effectively in a team environment.
- Professional and respectful demeanor toward co‑workers, clients and vendors.
Physical and Working Conditions
- Perform heavy lifting, pushing, pulling of landscaping equipment and materials (up to 80 lbs. for a walk‑behind mower, 50 lbs. for general lifts).
- Operate equipment in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, precipitation) and walk up to 10 miles a day, sometimes uphill and on uneven terrain.
- Perform manual tasks such as digging, shoveling snow, bending and kneeling for extended periods (up to 6 hours or more).
- Work varied hours, including weekends and holidays.
