Job Title: Grounds General Maintenance Worker

Salary Grade: SG103

Recruitment Range: $37,213.00 - $46,463.00

Note: Salary offered will be determined based on directly related experience.

Work Location: 653 Hwy 42 W., Clayton, NC (Johnston County)

Job Responsibilities
  1. Maintain town grounds, right of ways, cemeteries, main street, and town squares, including planting, mowing, weed control, pesticide application, mulching, watering, tree trimming, fence maintenance, edging, and leaf collection.
  2. Perform landscape maintenance such as turf management, plant installation, and general gardening tasks.
  3. Maintain trees and shrubs, including pruning, removal, and trash cleanup.
  4. Assist with minor building maintenance (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting) and support higher-skilled trades as needed.
  5. Maintain cemetery grounds, including mowing and trimming around graves.
  6. Participate in community activities such as trash removal, leaf gathering, and supporting town events.
  7. Handle loading/unloading of materials and operate trucks and small machinery safely.
  8. Perform equipment inspections and maintenance.
  9. Assist with event setup, takedown, and holiday decorations.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Knowledge of grounds maintenance tools, methods, and safety standards.
  • Understanding of landscape maintenance procedures and horticulture.
  • Skill in operating maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and handle chemicals and pesticides responsibly.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational or technical training in landscaping or horticulture preferred.
  • Pesticide license preferred.
