Job summary

Stony Brook University Hospital is seeking a Grounds Worker for the Day Shift. The role involves maintaining grounds, athletic fields, walkways, and roads at State facilities, performing planting, mowing, debris removal, and seasonal tasks to keep grounds in top condition.

This full-time position requires physical fitness, a valid New York driver’s license, and the ability to work with diverse teams. Shift is 6:00am–2:30pm with a Monday and Tuesday off, and a structured posting window.

Qualifications

• Must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and to communicate effectively to obtain and convey information.

Responsibilities

• Maintains the appearance and conditions of grounds at State facilities.
• Breaks up concrete to repair holes and patches.
• Cuts grass using lawnmowers and maintains athletic fields.
• Plows roads and parking lots; clears snow and ice on walkways.
• Performs routine building maintenance and minor repairs.
• May lead students, inmates, clients, or contract employees in grounds activities.
