Job summary

Zipline, a global autonomous logistics company, is seeking an Applications Engineer Intern to support deployment of ground infrastructure. You will identify, validate, and integrate off-the-shelf systems for diverse environments, ensuring Zipline hardware functions flawlessly.

The role emphasizes rigorous systems thinking and collaboration with operations and engineering teams, with hands-on development at our South San Francisco site during Summer 2027.

Qualifications

• Must have completed the second year of undergraduate studies in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software, data collection and analysis, and collaboration with stakeholders to address engineering challenges.
• Experience reading data sheets, layouts, or schematics.
• CAD skills and any machine shop/prototyping experience is a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical information.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development, testing, and deployment of system improvements for the Platform 2 system supporting ground systems and new deployments.
• Develop and implement technical solutions for specialized application needs, including lifting apparatus and weather stations for localized flight safety.
• Evaluate and manage vendor relationships to source high-availability, low-cost commercially available products.
• Work with engineering and deployments to refine site requirements into deployable systems.
• Define handover materials and processes to move new solutions into sustaining operations.
