Job summary

FreshDirect seeks a Ground Operations Supervisor in New York to lead daily inbound operations with focus on food safety, quality, staffing, and process management. You will direct truck unloading, pallet movement, and ensure safety standards while coaching a team on the floor 80% of the time.

Ideal candidates have 2–4 years of leadership experience, can work in cold environments, and are comfortable with SAP and Warehouse Management Systems.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of leadership experience required.
• Willingness and ability to work in refrigerated (20–38°F) and freezer (-10°F) environments.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand/walk 9–11 hours, and bend/push/pull/squat/reach.
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and maintain a flexible schedule during peak periods.
• Associate degree preferred; HS Diploma/GED required (or equivalent experience).
• Preferred experience with Warehouse Management Systems and SAP (not required).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word).
• English required; bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Experience working with perishables or short shelf-life products a plus.

• Collaborate with team and senior management to identify process improvements and document procedures.
• Oversee equipment operation, safety guidelines, and issue reporting; report problems promptly.
• Support company initiatives and maintain clean, safe, organized work environment.
• Write weekly schedules and manage timecards using Kronos.
• Follow 80/20 rule: 80% on floor, 20% off floor.

The Role

The Ground Operations Supervisor will lead and oversee daily inbound operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and consistent execution across food safety, quality, staffing, productivity, and process management. This role will manage truck unloading and pallet movement, lead and develop associates, oversee staffing and scheduling, and ensure compliance with Food Safety, GMP, HACCP, safety protocols, and FreshDirect policies. They will partner closely with HR and senior leadership to address employee matters, improve processes, and implement new procedures, while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment. This is a highly hands‑on leadership role, with approximately 80% of time spent on the floor and 20% off the floor, supporting successful shift execution and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

• Must be able to work weekends (Tues/Wed off).
• Direct, coordinate, and manage all aspects of daily inbound operations including food safety, quality control, and process management.
• Oversee pallet movement, truck unloading, and resolve issues within scope to meet company standards.
• Guide, direct, and motivate associates to achieve productivity goals and ensure successful shift execution.
• Manage daily staffing schedules in alignment with budget and business needs using approved staffing models.
• Address employee concerns and partner with HRBP on all levels of investigations.
• Recruit, interview, train, coach, and develop talent while executing performance standards and department matrices.
• Ensure compliance with Food Safety, GMPs, HACCP, Safety protocols, and all FreshDirect policies.
• Collaborate with the team and senior management to identify process improvements and document new procedures.
• Oversee proper equipment operation, safety guidelines, and PITO usage; report all equipment issues immediately.
• Support and participate in company‑wide initiatives, programs, and projects as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Write weekly schedules and manage timecards using Kronos.
• Comply with the 80/20 Rule: 80% on the floor, 20% off the floor.
