You will assist customers, answer questions about products, and help maintain a welcoming shopping environment while upholding safety and cleanliness standards. The role emphasizes accurate product knowledge, responsive communication, and proactive assistance to ensure customers find what they need and have a positive experience.

Qualifications

• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Effective communication skills.
• Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
• Current food handlers permit once employed.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Promote trust and respect among associates.
• Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome and appreciated by answering questions about products.
• Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department.
• Inform customers of grocery specials.
• Provide customers with fresh products ordered.
• Recommend grocery items to customers to meet their needs.
• Check product quality to ensure freshness; review sell-by dates and take action.
• Aim for at least five items bagged per bag, ensuring items are undamaged.
• Follow best practices for bagging in various bag types (reusable, plastic, paper).
• Assist in unloading customer’s merchandise from bottom of cart for checkout.
• Offer help loading bags into customers’ cars.
• Return merchandise to store shelves.
• Gather carts and return them to designated areas.
• Understand store layout and locate products; perform price checks for cashiers.
• Order, label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
• Report ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
• Display a positive attitude.
• Stay current with ads (present, future, seasonal, and special).
• Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers; maintain temperature logs.
• Use equipment in grocery department (refrigerators, freezers, baler, u-boats, compactor, forklift, pallet jacks) per guidelines.
• Reinforce safety programs by following safety procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.
• Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting needs for repair.
• Notify management of accidents.
• Report safety risks, issues, or illegal activity (robbery, theft, or fraud).
• Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
