Job summary

Kroger in Salina, KS is seeking an Assistant Department Manager to plan, organize, staff, train and direct Grocery Department associates. You will perform production and customer service functions to maximize store sales and profits safely and ethically in accordance with policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Willing to work flexible hours including mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to make quick, informed decisions and remain calm under pressure.
• Experience in production, merchandising and customer service in grocery retail.
• Understanding of department operations: staffing, ordering, inventory, scheduling and expenses.
• Knowledge of employment laws and OSHA compliance.
• Experience as a grocery retail manager or backup manager is preferred.
• Proven dependability and integrity in prior roles.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Department Manager in planning, organizing, staffing, training and directing Grocery Department associates.
• Perform production and customer service functions; maximize store sales and profits safely and ethically.
• Demonstrate Kroger's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity and safety.
• Respond to customer or associate comments, complaints and questions professionally.
• Use CAO to manage ordering and balance on hand when supervisor is absent.
• Price and display merchandise; ensure signage, rotation, freshness and space allocation.
• Lead merchandising techniques and promotional activities with the team.
• Support adherence to company policies and dress code.
• Provide input on department budgets, goals and results.
• Communicate effectively with associates and customers; maintain a positive impression.
