Job summary

The Kroger family of companies seeks an Assistant Department Manager for the Grocery Department at 4107 10th St, Great Bend, KS. You will assist in planning, staffing, training and directing associates while driving service and sales in a safe, ethical manner.

You will support pricing, merchandising, budgeting and customer satisfaction, and lead initiatives to improve operations. The role offers growth opportunities within a nationwide grocer with strong benefits.

Qualifications

• Willing to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights.
• Willing and available to work weekends and holidays.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to make quick, informed decisions.
• Able to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations and make a positive impression.
• Grocery retail work experience and/or backup manager experience.
• Understanding of department operations (staffing, merchandising, ordering, inventory, scheduling, etc.)
• Knowledge of employment practices laws and OSHA compliance.
• Operate power machinery and work with tools (power jacks, box cutters, label guns, balers, compactors, etc.).
• Demonstrated dependability and integrity in past roles.

Responsibilities

• Assist Department Manager in organizing work, staffing needs and training and scheduling associates.
• Respond to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests and questions with courtesy and professionalism.
• Use CAO to manage ordering and ensure proper product balance in manager’s absence.
• Price and display merchandise, maintain signage, rotation, freshness and space allocation.
• Counsel associates in merchandising techniques and customer service.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, dress code, sanitation and harassment/discrimination standards.
• Provide input on budgets, goals and results for the department.
• Communicate with associates and customers to create a positive impression.
• Maintain equipment, facilities and sanitation to policy standards.
• Support company initiatives and process improvements to direct reports.
• Demonstrate ability to manage people and workloads.
• Perform any duties as assigned.
