Job summary

Fred Meyer, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Department Manager for the Grocery Department in the Spokane area. The role supports planning, staffing, training, and directing associates to maximize store sales while maintaining safety and policy standards.

You will lead merchandising, pricing, and customer service efforts, using CAO for ordering and inventory balance. The position offers opportunities for growth within a large Kroger family of companies.

Qualifications

• Willing to be flexible and work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and nights as needed.
• Willing and available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.
• Calm, courteous handling of stressful situations and customer interactions.
• Ability to manage department operations including staffing, merchandising, ordering, inventory, shrink control, and labor scheduling.
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to employment practices and OSHA compliance.
• Ability to operate power machinery and job tools (power jacks, balers, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Assist the Department Manager in organizing work, staffing, and training associates.
• Schedule associates to ensure prompt and courteous service for customers.
• Use CAO to manage ordering quantities and balance on hand.
• Price and display merchandise and maintain signage and shelf life.
• Engage and counsel associates in merchandising and customer service.
• Implement company programs and policies, including dress code and safety standards.
• Communicate with associates and customers to provide a positive impression.
• Maintain equipment, facilities, and sanitary standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
