Job summary

La Montañita Food Cooperative is seeking a Grocery Department Team Leader to direct daily operations, ensure top-notch customer service, and manage inventory and staffing. You will lead with integrity, uphold safety guidelines, and drive department performance toward store goals.

The role requires supervisory experience, strong product knowledge, and the ability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum of three (5) years’ previous Customer service skills (able to complete the full customer service cycle).
• Minimum of three (3) years’ previous experience with grocery, bulk, dairy and/or frozen items.
• Minimum of three (3) years previous supervisory experience.
• Knowledge of products, buying, pricing, merchandising, and inventory management.
• Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills.
• Proficient mathematical skills for assessing financial performance, monitoring profitability, and managing inventory.
• Food safety certification. If not currently certified, will commit to completing certification within 1 month.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and direct all aspects of Grocery department operations.
• Ensure an excellent experience for customers in the Grocery area.
• Maintain high quality products and service selections with product knowledge.
• Uphold management best practices and mentor department team members.
• Adhere to labor and product safety guidelines and store policies.
• Recruit, retain and engage department staff.
• Order, receive, merchandise, and stock inventory following guidelines.
• Set annual department budgets for sales, gross margin, labor cost and net profit.
• Open and close procedures and safety compliance.
• Monitor performance and provide coaching, feedback, and evaluations.
