Responsibilities include:

  • Informing customers of food specials and recommending grocery items to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Checking product quality to ensure freshness, reviewing "sell by" dates, and taking appropriate action.
  • Providing customers with ordered grocery products, both fresh and non-perishable.
  • Labeling, stocking, and inventorying department merchandise.
  • Reporting product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Staying current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Adhering to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Maintaining proper temperatures in cases and coolers, and keeping temperature logs.
  • Gaining and maintaining knowledge of products sold within the department and responding to questions and making suggestions.
  • Creating a welcoming environment for customers, making them feel important and appreciated.
  • Reinforcing safety programs by complying with safety procedures and reporting unsafe conditions.
  • Practicing preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and reporting repairs.
  • Notifying management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Working cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
  • Managing conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
  • Acting with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
  • Following directions and seeking assistance when necessary.
  • Supporting and assisting minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
  • Performing essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
