Job description

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

IDGrind machinists are responsible for producing work efficiently while meeting drawing and planning specifications and requirements.

They set up and operate grinding machines to produce parts according to blueprints and engineering specifications. This includes selecting, mounting, attaching, and calibrating various attachments to grind angles, contours, lines, spheres, etc., on surfaces. Set-ups may involve blocking, aligning, and securing irregularly shaped workpieces. Machinists dress and change wheels for different finish requirements. They rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish tasks and may orient, train, assign, and check the work of lower-level associates.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Complete set-ups with some supervision or assistance.
2. Handle all phases of part operation set-up to achieve first article acceptance.
3. Perform and maintain accurate in-process quality inspections and records.
4. Identify and recommend process improvements to reduce part quality variation.
5. Improve processes, procedures, and eliminate waste.
6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE, CAPABILITIES, AND SUCCESS FACTORS:

• At least three (3) years of experience in operation set-up on CNC ID grinding equipment.
• Skilled in using indicators, gauges, dial bore gauges, and plate inspection methods for first article and in-process inspection of precision machined parts.
• Ability to maintain close tolerances (within .0003") of IDs, and hold .0003" profile, roundness.
• Understanding of machine tool accuracies and tool offsets.
• Knowledge of cutting wheel feeds, speeds, and wheel life for aerospace grinding.
• Ability to follow verbal instructions and interpret blueprints and quality requirements.
• Ability to communicate positively with employees and management.
• Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (more with assistance).
• Ability to stand for long periods.
• Experience with AS9100, 5S, Lean, and Six Sigma is a plus.

Salary Range: $24.00 - $32.00 per hour.
