SSSD has an opening for a Milling Machinist 1 (Apprentice) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals as part of the Apprentice Program. This position will be in Redondo Beach, California.
The ideal candidate will have experience performing a variety of machinist responsibilities, which may include but are not limited to the following:
Sets up and operates plain or universal, horizontal, or vertical milling machines to perform machining operations such as compound angles and contours; boring compound angular holes; doing helical and spiral milling; serrating; and gear, spline, and keyway cutting to exacting tolerances.
Selects, mounts, and aligns various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling; plans sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup; determines, sets, and adjusts speeds, feeds, and depth of cut; interprets blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
Uses a variety of machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments; makes standard shop computations; and measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points to lay out stock for machining.
May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent and 0 years additional education and/or related experience.
0-2 years of working experience in a related industry.
Proven ability to work in a team environment.
Must be able to work with others.
Must be able to work in a high stress, dynamic and fast paced environment.
High attention to detail.
Must be willing to enter a hazardous material and respirator monitoring program.
Experience working with basic hand tools (Screwdriver, saw, drill, etc.).
Basic experience to work with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
Interested in pursuing a career as a machinist in the space industry.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a machine shop environment.
Experience working in the aerospace industry.
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
Currently enrolled or have previously completed machinist training courses.
Salary Range: $50,000 - $83,300
