Job summary

Boose at Cornwall Inc. seeks a skilled grinder operator to process metal castings using belt grinders and air tools. You will follow shop cards, inspect output against specs, and maintain a clean, safe work area.

Requires HS diploma or GED; foundry/manufacturing experience preferred. Lift up to 50 lbs, stand for long periods. On-site, full-time position with standard shop hours.

Responsibilities

• Operate belt grinder, air tools, and cutting/grinding equipment.
• Use a variety of hand tools: hammers, chisels, and files.
• Follow shop cards to remove flashings and molding defects from castings.
• Ensure castings meet customer specifications.
• Record quantities in Odyssey after each work order.
• Return completed castings to baskets and manage scrap.

Description

Summary Description:

Operates one (1) or more types of grinding and cutting equipment in removing undesirable projections or surplus metal (fins, burrs, parting lines, flashing, gates, and risers) from sand castings to meet customers specifications and quality levels.

Essential Functions:

• Operate stationary belt grinder, air tools, air power vice, small cut off wheel grinder
• Use of a variety of hand tools including hammers, cold chisels, and files
• Follows shop card instructions to perform grinding operation by: Removing, either through cutting, grinding, the flashings, gate contacts, parting lines, molding defects from castings
• Ensure all castings are ground to customers/shop cards specifications
• Report accurate casting quantities for each work order in Odyssey
• When job is completed, place corresponding shop card in each basket(s) and place completed castings back into basket(s)
• Return all scrap to designated area at inspection with proper shop card
• Replace belts, wheels, bits, pins, etc. as required
• Maintains and cleans all equipment and work area
• Perform any and all other job-related tasks as assigned
• Carries out all duties and responsibilities in full accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures

Requirements

Skills or Experience Required:

High School diploma or GED; experience in a foundry or manufacturing environment is preferred.

Computer and communication skills are necessary. Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Physical work includes:
