Job summary

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) seeks a Technical Specialist, Grid Transition to provide advanced technical leadership for engineering studies and modeling supporting the transition to inverter-based resources across the New York bulk power system.

You will guide EMTP/PSSE analyses, mentor engineers, and translate study results into actionable planning recommendations, with onsite presence in Rensselaer, NY, and optional remote days.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or industrial engineering required; MS/PhD preferred.
• 7–10 years in electric transmission/ISO/RTO environments with inverter-based resources.
• Proficiency with EMTP software such as PSCAD and ETran.
• Familiarity with NPCC/NYSRC and ISO/RTO market rules.

Responsibilities

• Subject matter expert for inverter-based technologies in planning, operations and modeling.
• Lead dynamic and transient simulations (PSSE/EMTP) and complex control systems.
• Develop methods to assess DER and large-load impacts on grid dynamics and mitigation.
• Prepare detailed engineering study reports and NYISO manuals.
• Coordinate with NYISO departments and reliability groups.
