Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a Distribution Control Center Operator II to monitor and control the electric distribution system, helping restore power during outages while ensuring accurate real-time data in OMS, DMS, and SCADA systems.

You will work in a high-pressure, 24/7 environment, coordinating outages, directing field resources, and supporting emergency response efforts. Training includes SOPD II testing and an extensive Operator Training Certification program lasting many months.

Qualifications

  • High-school Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Experience as an operator or in utility environments is valued.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills essential.
  • Good computer literacy and technical aptitude.
  • Know-how of distribution systems, equipment, and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Direct outage dispatching for feeder level outages and assist with substation outages.
  • Review outage information and dispatch field resources to restore power.
  • Ensure outage information is correctly modeled in OMS and DMS.
  • Maintain accurate OMS/DMS distribution models for optimization.
  • Authorize and model HLT, Clearance, DNO, and Information tags.
  • Direct switching activities under supervision to optimize MWs in DMS.
  • Monitor SCADA/DMS alarms and respond to abnormal conditions.
  • Assist in directing restoration during large outages and emergencies.
