Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a Senior DCC Operator to monitor, analyze, and manage outage events across the distribution system. You will support grid reliability, coordinate field resources, and maintain accurate real-time information for restoration at the feeder level and below.

In this role you will work with the Grid Management team, DCC Operator II, and leadership, handling SOPD II tests, and progressing through Operator Training Certification to Operator II. A 24/7 rotating shift is required.

Qualifications

  • Required: High-school Diploma/GED.
  • Preferred: Associate degree.
  • Desirable: previous operator experience.
  • Good written and verbal communications; ability to work with diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated computer and technical aptitude; knowledge of distribution systems, equipment, and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Direct outage dispatching for feeder level outages and below; coordinate field resources to restore power; ensure OMS/DMS models are accurate.
  • Authorize, record and model tags (HLT, Clearance, DNO, Information) in OMS/DMS; supervise switching activities to maintain accurate distribution model.
  • Monitor DSCADA and DMS systems; remotely operate breakers, reclosers, regulators; install/remove HLTs; respond to alarms and determine appropriate actions.
  • Assist in directing restoration for large outages; develop emergency switching orders; provide fault location analysis when needed.
